Humbled to have been selected to participate in not one but two AICP - sponsored programs. As finalist in the CDDP - Commercial Directors Diversity Program I have been fortunate to take part in months long intensive master classes, twice per week, featuring panelist from some of the most established companies throughout the commercial world.

Through the AICP Mentorship Program I have been just as fortunate to be paired with Yvette Cobarrubias / founder of one of the best post houses in the industry, Cosmostreet Editorial.

INCUBATOR

Writer/Director Desmond Faison passionately creates work that speaks to world issues through his art forms and focuses on sociopolitical content rooted in understanding injustice. Prior to being a filmmaker, he played NCAA - football and applies his sports mindset to create bold, inspiring work for the next generation.

Amongst his extensive credits, Desmond has written and directed the independent feature film Killing Lazarus (produced by Issa Rae), directed three episodes of HULU/Bounce TV’s original and highest rated show “Johnson,” and written and directed numerous award-winning short films, branded content and commercials.

He was in the 2023 DGA’s CDDP program and in addition to his narrative work, he has created spots for Nike and Lionsgate and collaborated with an impressive list of cultural icons including LeBron James, Kevin Hart, the late Kobe Bryant and Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe, among others.

With a specialty in interactive storytelling, Desmond partnered with EP and 9 time NBA All - Star Paul George, Low Spark Film and CAA on his latest script T.H.U.G.s.

Having spent the majority of his formative years in the cracks of the great American experience whether it be inner city northeast Portland or under the Big Sky of Montana State University, Desmond has had firsthand experiences in an uncommon breadth of the American story which he transforms into his power for story.

LeBron, Kobe, and Nike Basketball…

HOW IT BEGAN

In early 2008, as a brand new director and after my first proper short film won a Jury Award at a film festival here in Los Angeles, I was approached by NIKE BASKETBALL executives to create a no-budget digital skit for them. This was long before "going viral" became a thing, and without featuring any celebrities, my first skit “Shaq Jumps Escalade” - spoofing a very popular Widen Kennedy / Kobe Bryant project, reached over 1 million views in just its first week. Shortly after I was asked to replicate this success with a similar budget, but this time featuring arguably the biggest star in the world, LeBron James, and his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates. Lightning struck twice as this branded skit and second go at spoofing a Widen Kennedy created project received, earned media placements throughout ESPN's news cycle in less than 36 hours from our first take. Within 48 hours, the project became the focus of its own featured segment during halftime of the NBA finals on ABC.

Citing my ability to work with and gain the trust of global icons such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant among others, even under the most stringent time and budget constraints, while consistently and quantifiably exceeding any reasonable expectations, this project led to a productive, nearly 5-year creative relationship with the worldwide leader in sports apparel. And the rest is history…
